BSC LEADS PACK AFTER DAY ONE

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern swim and dive teams wrapped up the opening night of the 2023 Southern Athletic Association Swim & Dive Championships after competing in the 200 medley relay, 800 free relay and the women's 1-meter dive.

In the opening event, the women's 200 medley relay Rhodes took first with a new meet record of 1:45.76. Centre and Berry placed second and third respectively and Birmingham-Southern team of Mae Moore, Samantha Feild, Sabrina Morgavi, and Regan Skedgell finished fourth with a time of 1:50.17.

During the men's 200 medley relay, Berry would come in first with a meet record time of 1:30.38. Rhodes would finish second and the Birmingham-Southern team consisting of Noah Daniels, Aden Kraft, Noah Prevost, and Connor McClain would finish third with a time of 1:31.63.

The meet then moved to the 800 free relay event. In the women's event Centre would claim top spot, with the Panthers finishing second with a time of 7:47.59. The BSC team of Alex Sprague, Mary Miller Goldberg, Amelia Cooper, and Ella Falco would finish roughly 12 seconds in front of Rhodes, who took third.

The BSC men's 800 free relay team built off the momentum the women brought and took first in the event. Noah Prevost, Charlie Fountain, Jakob Icimsoy, and AJ Schwabe swam a NCAA BCUT time of 6:43.65.

The Birmingham-Southern women catapulted into first place after a spectacular showing in the women's 1-meter diving event. Anna Cate Goodson took second place earning 17 points, while Mallory Wilson earned 16 points finishing in third place. Cassie Ruiz finished fifth for BSC adding 14 points to the team's total.

After day one, the BSC women sit in first place with 137 points and the men lead the pack as well with 108 points.
