BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Maurice Sutherland of the Birmingham-Southern men's track and field team jumped to a fourth place finish in the triple jump at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

Maurice was the first of 10 jumpers in flight one of the competition. On his first jump Maurice recorded a lifetime best and new Birmingham-Southern school record jump of 14.95 meters. He would fault on his final two jumps, but his first jump was good enough to get him into the top nine and advance to the finals. 

In his first jump in the finals Sutherland recorded a jump length of 14.75, he would fault on his second jump, but put up a 14.70 jump length in his third round. His 14.95 was good enough to place fourth overall in the triple jump and collect All-American Honors.
