BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In their third outdoor meet of the season, the Birmingham-Southern men's and women's track and field teams had five different athletes earn top eight finishes at the UAB Spring Invite.
After a great performance last week in Atlanta,
Sydney Smith led the women's team with a personal best 34.47m javelin throw to earn fifth place and highest any Division III athlete in the meet. The Montgomery native also had a season best time of 1:03.79 in the women's 400m.
Mallory Jackson and
Shyla Williams also recorded PRs at UAB. Jackson's 100m time of 13.18 earned her 21st while Williams' 8.93m shot put throw earned her 16th.
Jack Rodgers had the highest placement on the men's team with a fourth-place 10:12.28 in the 3000m. Senior
Andrew Warhurst had two top eight finishes himself highlighted by a fifth-place 16.18 110m hurdles sprint. He also placed eighth in 400m hurdles with a 1:06.00 time.
Kobe King also joined in BSC's top eight placements by finishing sixth in both the triple jump (13.13m) and long jump. King's long jump of 6.51m was his personal best.
Noah Arrington also earned sixth place with a 4:08.37 in the 1500m.
In the field,
Jaylen Scott also had a great day with two PRs for two tenth-place finishes. He had a discus throw of 39.79m while having a hammer throw of 32.51m.
Ken Felder also had a PR in the hammer throw with a 24.20m throw for 13th.
