BIRMINGHAM, Ala.—Sophomore Taylor Harkins threw her first career no-hitter in game two as the Birmingham-Southern softball team defeated Sewanee twice on Saturday, 8-0 and 13-0, both in five innings at BSC Softball Park.

The Panthers moved to 24-6-1 and 13-2-1 in the Southern Athletic Association; the Tigers fell to 0-22 overall and 0-18 in SAA action.

It was Senior Day for BSC, with Taylor Bassett, Bethany Fronk, Joanna Jernigan, and Alyssa Statham being honored in a pregame ceremony.

The Panthers led 4-0 after two innings in game one, then added three more in the bottom of the fourth before sophomore Ashley Leonard drew a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth to end the game early at 8-0.

Five Panthers picked up two hits apiece, including doubles from junior Maddie Ridgway, sophomore Alex Skene, and freshman Micaela Beck, and a Statham triple, and Beck led with two RBIs. Fronk (12-2) threw the complete game, giving up only one hit with nine strikeouts and no walks.

BSC scored three in the bottom of the first of game two and added five more in the bottom of the second, thanks to doubles from sophomore Amanda Ballew, Statham, and Bassett. Another five runs in the bottom of the third extended the lead to 13-0.

Harkins (12-4) struck out six batters in the five-inning no-hitter, the first of her career. Statham was 2-2 and Bassett was 2-3 at the plate, and Statham led with four RBIs.

The teams will play twice again tomorrow in a noon doubleheader to finish out the series.
