BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The No. 13 Birmingham-Southern softball team dropped its season opening doubleheader against Piedmont College Saturday afternoon.  The Panthers fell 4-3 in eight innings in the first game, and then 1-0 in the night cap.

Abby Spencer (Auburn, Ala./Auburn HS) led the team with three hits on the day and a run.  Kendall Hamm (Adamsville, Ala./Sumitron Christian HS) went 2-for-4 and had an RBI.

Three pitchers saw time on the mound.  Haley Crumpton (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS) and Taylor Harkins (Mountain Brook, Ala./Mountain Brook HS) earned the starts for the Panthers. Leah White (Daphne, Ala./Spanish Fort HS) pitched four innings in relief. 

Harkins finished with a team-best four strikeouts.  Crumpton went six innings and finished with a 0.00 ERA.

The Panthers hit the road next.  They face Covenant College on Tuesday, Feb. 14 in a doubleheader.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
