Box Score WALESKA, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team dropped to 1-2 on Saturday afternoon as the Panthers were defeated by the Reinhardt Eagles 21-17.
Sophomore midfielder Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) led the Panthers with five goals in the match. Cox scored three goals in the first half and found her final two goals back-to-back in the waning minutes of an unsuccessful second-half comeback attempt. Cox also led the team with nine ground balls.
Birmingham-Southern started the game slowly but began to execute on goal-scoring opportunities late in the first half. The Panthers cut a 6-3 Reinhardt lead with 14:20 to tie it up 8-8 with 2:20 left before the break.
A late first-half goal by the Eagles' Alex Powers put Reinhardt up 9-8 at halftime.
The second half would not be as favorable for Birmingham-Southern as the Panthers were outscored 13-9 in the last 30 minutes of play, stamping them with the loss.
Other leaders for BSC in the game were senior Natalie Daniel (Ooltewah, Tenn./Baylor School) who scored four goals and senior Ashley Shepherd (Dandridge, Tenn./Jefferson County HS), who had four draw controls.
Birmingham-Southern will remain on the road for its first conference game of the season against Sewanee. The Panthers and Tigers are scheduled to face off on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 1 p.m.
