Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team defeated Piedmont 22-13 at home on Wednesday night to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Panthers opened up the game with four straight goals and never looked back, leading 13-5 at the halftime break and finishing the game with five unanswered goals to make it a nine goal advantage at the final whistle.
Senior Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) led BSC in the win, scoring 12 of the Panthers' 22 goals, a season-high for the midfielder. She also recorded an assist and caused four turnovers. Cox surpassed the 200 career goal milestone during the game and now has 205 total.
Sophomore midfielder Lizzie LaVangie (Jacksonville, Fla./Darlington School) and sophomore attack Kathleen Napier (Burlingame, Calif./Mercy HS) each scored multiple goals in the game, as well. LaVangie scored a season-high five goals, had five draw controls, and picked up a game-high nine ground balls. Napier scored three goals and had three draw controls and five ground balls.
Birmingham-Southern outshot Piedmont 42-20 in the game with 33 of those shots on goal.
The Panthers travel to Sewanee for their next game, their SAA opener, on Saturday, Feb. 15.
