Box Score 2 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 15 Birmingham-Southern softball swept Covenant College Saturday afternoon to open their home season. BSC (3-3) won the first game 10-2 in five innings and took the finale 7-3.
Bailey Murphy (Trussville, Ala./University of South Alabama) was a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI and two walks on the day. She also pitched 2.2 flawless innings to close out the second win. Alyssa Fowler (Moody, Ala./Moody HS) hit .600, going 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs and two RBI. And Madison Plunkett (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson HS), Kaylyn Chapman (New Castle, Pa./Shenango HS), and Morgan McGuire (Notasulga, Ala./Reeltown HS) also earned multiple hits in the wins.
Lauren Keplinger (Pinson, Ala./Wallace State CC) pocketed her first win of the season in game one. She threw 3.0 scoreless innings and gave up only one hit. Annie Clayton (Eufaula, Ala./Eufaula HS) struck out three en route to her game two win after 4.1 innings in the circle.
The Panthers hit the road tomorrow. They take on National Runner-up No. 2 Emory University in a doubleheader in Atlanta. First pitch is set for noon.
