BSC Rolls Past Berry for First SAA Win

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. – The Birmingham-Southern women's lacrosse team defeated Southern Athletic Association foe Berry College 15-4 on Friday night to pick up its first conference win of the season.

BSC dominated the contest, starting the game with a 7-0 run and headed into halftime with a 9-1 lead. The Panthers doubled the home team's goal total in the second half, as well, to run away with the 15-4 victory.

Senior midfielder Jade Cox (Rome, Ga./Darlington School) and sophomore attack Kathleen Napier (Burlingame, Calif./Mercy HS) led the Panther offense accounting for 11 of BSC's 15 goals against the Vikings. Cox scored six goals on 10 shots and had four draw controls and four ground balls. Napier scored five goals on the night with 10 shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Alexus Howard (Franklin, Tenn./Franklin HS) earned the win, making one save in one half played. Freshman goalie Jamie O'Melia (Atlanta, Ga./Chamblee Charter HS) played the entire second half and made three saves.

With the win, Birmingham-Southern improves to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the SAA. The Panthers will be on the road against for their next game at Point University on Wednesday, March 18.
