INDIANAPOLIS - Birmingham-Southern will be the No. 3 seed in the Marshall, Texas Regional of the 2021 NCAA Division III Softball Championship, the NCAA announced May 17. The regional will be played May 21-23 at East Texas Baptist University's Taylor Field, site of the 2023 national championship.
The Southern Athletic Association champion Panthers will meet and No. 4 seed Redlands (Calif.), the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions, in the first round of the regional, Friday, May 21 at 4 p.m.
Also in the first round, American Southwest Conference champs East Texas Baptist is the No. 1 seed and will No. 6 seed East Nazarene (Mass.), the New England Collegiate Conference champions. Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference champions Salisbury (Md.) is the No. 2 seed and will meet No. 5 seed Ohio Northern, the Ohio Athletic Conference champions.
The 48-team NCAA Division III Championship will include eight six-team regional brackets with each region winner advancing to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship, May 27-June 1 at Moyer Park in Salem, Virginia.
Birmingham-Southern is making its fourth appearance in an NCAA D3 Softball Regional and second consecutive after making the tournament in 2012, 2016 and 2019. The 2020 tournament was canceled due to COVID-19. BSC earned an automatic berth to the 2021 tournament as Southern Athletic Association Tournament champions.
The Panthers are 4-6 all-time in the tournament and are making their third trip to Texas for a regional.
