BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Megan Curry has been named the sixth head coach in Birmingham-Southern softball history. The newly inducted Samford Hall of Famer was recently head softball coach at Asbury University.
When asked about her hiring, Coach Curry said, "I am humbled and excited to be a part of the BSC softball family! BSC softball has a wonderful tradition of excellence and I look forward to continuing it forward. Thank you to everyone in the BSC Athletic Department that trusted me to lead this program! Let's get to work!"
At Asbury, Curry coached an NCCAA All-American, NCCAA Mideast All-Region players, and NCCAA Scholar-Athletes in her three seasons. Before becoming the head coach at Asbury, Curry spent one season as assistant coach at Mercer University and two seasons as assistant coach at Samford University. She gained years of experience in recruiting and skill development as well as coaching slap hitters, outfielders, and base running.
This year, Curry was inducted into the Samford Sports Hall of Fame for her decorative collegiate career from 2013-16. At Samford, she was a four-year starter in the outfield and was named the 2016 Southern Conference Softball Player of the Year as well as First Team All-Conference three times. In 2016, she led the nation in doubles per game and was a Southern Conference Champion, First Team NFCA All-South Region selection, and NCAA Championship Tournament player. Curry also broke the Samford softball single-season records for hits, batting average, at-bats, doubles, and stolen bases. In her career, she broke records for hits, at-bats, and triples. She graduated in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in Sports Administration.
Megan Curry was born in Louisville, Ky. but was raised in Paducah before coming to Fairhope in 2006. Her husband, Parker Curry, formerly played in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and is now on the UAB baseball staff. Now in Birmingham, Parker and Megan have a one-year-old daughter.
